This is the second part of the blog series from Pak Vista, a premier facility for memory care in Waupaca, about common Alzheimer’s myths. Last time we covered how memory loss and Alzheimer’s are not a normal part of aging, the misconception that Alzheimer’s and dementia are the same things, the misconception that Alzheimer’s is just a brain disease, and finally that Alzheimer’s only affects seniors.
Waupaca memory care staff knows about the myths associated with Alzheimer’s, including the ones we have covered. This time we will discuss whether or not Alzheimer’s Disease is fatal, whether vaccines cause Alzheimer’s, and the chances someone develops the disease.
Myth 5: Alzheimer’s Disease isn’t data.
Truth: Aside from the cognitive effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia, the physical effects can lead to health complications that result in death. Because the brain is connected to the rest of the body, our specialists in memory care in Waupaca will keep a close eye on stiff muscles, loss of coordination, fatigue, sleep issues, incontinence, and even seizures. Eventually, Alzheimer’s becomes too much for the body and brain, resulting in death.
Myth 6: Vaccines cause Alzheimer’s.
Truth: In recent years, there have been several theories that anything from silver dental fillings to flu vaccines causes Alzheimer’s. None of these are true. In fact, vaccines have been linked to a decreased likelihood of Alzheimer’s. There is absolutely no evidence that vaccines cause Alzheimer’s, including the covid-19 vaccine.
Myth 7: Whether or not someone develops Alzheimer’s is up to chance.
Truth: Researchers do not know what causes Alzheimer’s in some people and what doesn’t cause it in others. We know that we can lead a healthy lifestyle to help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Current evidence tells us regular exercise, healthy diets, and high blood pressure reduce the chances. Our Waupaca memory care staff highly encourages all of these things anyway to help with the overall wellness of all seniors.
